Privacy
Blinken Labs collects nothing from the apps. What they measure stays on your own Macs, and travels only between the Macs you pair.
This policy covers SystemStatusRemote (the host), SystemStatusClient (the client) and SystemStatusUninstaller, made by Blinken Labs, and this website.
What we collect
Nothing. The apps don't connect to the internet, to Blinken Labs, or to anyone else. They contain no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party code that reports anything. There is no account to make.
What the apps measure
The client measures its own Mac: processor, graphics and memory use, network and disk activity, disk space, battery, thermal state, the Mac's name, hardware model, the app's version, and its network address. It sends these only to the host it's paired with.
The host shows them, and keeps them only as far as you choose: if you turn on history, it records averages, peaks and connection events in files on the host Mac, for as many days as you set (30 by default). You can delete history at any time, and export it yourself.
If the host's owner lets a client be a Viewer, that client sees the same measurements for every Mac, without network addresses unless the owner turns them on. A Viewer keeps nothing on disk.
How it travels
Only between your own Macs, over your network, encrypted with TLS 1.3. Each Mac proves who it is with its own key, and after pairing only the paired Macs can connect. Nothing passes through a server of ours or anyone else's.
So that clients can find it, the host announces itself on your local network (Bonjour) with its Mac's name and a fingerprint of its certificate. Anyone on the same network can see that announcement, as with other devices that announce themselves; it reveals no measurements.
What's kept on your Macs
- Settings, in each app's own sandboxed storage.
- Pairings: on the host, the paired clients' names, hardware descriptions and certificate fingerprints; on a client, its host's certificate fingerprint.
- Identity keys, one per app, in your Keychain.
- History, on the host, only if you turn it on.
SystemStatusUninstaller removes all of it. Nothing is kept anywhere else.
If you contact us
If you write to support@blinken-labs.com, we use your address and what you send only to answer you. We don't share it or add you to any list.
Downloads, the App Store and this website
- Downloads come from GitHub, which handles them under its own privacy statement.
- If you get the apps from the Mac App Store, Apple handles the download and any purchase. If you choose to share crash reports and usage data with app developers in macOS, Apple may pass us those reports; they don't identify you.
- This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any web server, our host may keep standard access logs, such as addresses and pages requested, for running and securing the site.
Children
The apps collect nothing from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. A change that would collect anything from the apps would be announced in the release notes before it took effect.
